Are there ways to exchange US currency for foreign currency in the US?
Posted on Sep 23, 2008 under Foreign Currency Exchange |Im trying to collect other countries paper currency’s but i didn’t know if there was some way i could just easily exchange it inside the US
im just trying to collect the basic paper note from each country. will the banks let you do that?

Sure. Just go to your bank and have them exchange your American cash for foreign currency.
They may have to order some of the foreign notes, so it may take a couple of weeks.

yes, you need to go to major banks, usually to the main branch.
They may have you call first too so they have it in stock.
I get Canadian Dollars and Chinese Yaun at the main branch of the 5/3rd bank.
I pay a premium for the currency.
Collecting currency as a hedge against the foreign currency fluctuation requires a ton of dollars to make it worth the effort.

You can have your dollars changed into any recognized currency for any reason… the bank doesn’t care.
If you are in or near a major city (New York, L.A., San Fran, etc.) then your quest will be a lot easier since a lot of those places have international clients who travel a lot.
If you’re not near or in a major city and then go to your bank and tell them what you’re doing… if they’re cool then they should be happy to work with you… if they don’t go to another bank.
